Manchester United and Liverpool have announced their withdrawal from the European Super League.
JAKARTA — President of Barcelona Joan Laporta accuse Manchester United and Liverpool as the club that led the formation of the European Super League. The Super League was crowded last April, but only lasted a few days since the declaration as one by one the clubs involved withdrew.
United and Liverpool are two of 12 a team committed to forming a European competition that broke away from UEFA. Both join Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Barcelona, Real madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan. The plan quickly fizzled out amid the fans' strong reaction reaksi.
Only Barcelona, Real, and Juventus the club who continued to support the proposal despite criticism. According to Laporta insisting that football needs the Super League to survive. The Barca president also revealed, Manchester United and Liverpool are playing a bigger role than they have ever admitted.
“Liverpool and United are the true founders of the Super League,” he said to The vanguard, quoted from 90min, Monday (21/6).
“UEFA is threatening and demagogic. The club has not paid compensation to leave. Super League project is still alive. This will be the most exciting competition in the world, and will be based on meritocracy and solidarity,” he added.
Both United and Liverpool follow Chelsea who quickly decided to leave the Super League. But for the Red Devils, the chaos doesn't end there. Thousands of their supporters stormed the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of the Premier League game against Liverpool to protest the ownership of the Glazer family keluarga. The rich family is suspected by many as the culprit behind Manchester United's decline and their involvement in the Super League.
Fortunately for United, the situation has been relatively calm in recent weeks. Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer takes an approach that accommodates the public's wishes in an effort to build a relationship with the club's fanbase.
